“School Days” in the carpet tile classrooms

Back-to-school activity for students: Visit schoolrooms of the past.  Jr. Docent presenters.

Photography Workshop:
“Images: Our Link to the Past”.  Students will have a chance to examine photographs of Elizabeth City from the Museum's collection and then take their own camera downtown for a chance to document the way architecture, businesses, and people have changed or stayed the same through the years.  Students ages 12-18, Registration and supply fee are required.

Albemarle Historic Roundtable:
"Why we are called Tar Heels:  North Carolina Naval Stores," explores the development and economic importance of tar, turpentine, rosin and pitch and how North Carolinians obtained their colorful nickname. Harry Warren, Director of the North Carolina Museum of Forestry.

“Haunted Albemarle”
Past local residents of Elizabeth City aka Jr. Docents as costumed interpreters tell their stories. Hear from a Civil War soldier, an Albemarle suffragette, a past North Carolina governor, and other notorious Albemarle residents. Take a map and explore the cemetery on your own afterwards.

“Lightships: Floating Lighthouses of the Mid-Atlantic”
Wayne Kirklin, Associate Historian Overfalls Maritime Museum Foundation.  Book signing of the same title will follow the presentation.

Focus Week for Schools: 
The Auditorium, Carpet, Tile classrooms, Gallery, “Algonquians” Students will attend a day of specialized activities centered on Native Americans of the Albemarle Region.  Stations offer a mix of hands-on-activities, demonstrations, exhibit tours with guest presenters on Friday.  Student registration is required.  “  K-6th grade.

“Albemarle Christmas—A Colonial Christmas”

Annual Museum of the Albemarle Open House.  Tour of the museum building decorated for the holidays with a colonial theme.  Creative activities for the children highlighted with a visit from “Santa.”

“Designers Workshop-Deck Those Halls”

Design and make your own Holiday Decorations, lunch included. Groups please call to schedule this workshop on an alternate day.  This workshop is designed for adults.  Registration and fee required.

“Jingle Bells are Rockin’”

Spend an afternoon learning the history of gingerbread at Christmas, decorate a gingerbread house.  K-3rd grade, Registration and fee required.
