The current theme is Discover a New World. 

Museum staff has been hard at work preparing for a theme change in the Discovery Room. “Discover Life on the Farm” is now “Discover a New World.” Visitors can experience what life was like for the Native Americans who lived in the Albemarle region during the time of first contact and exploration. An Algonquian hut has been built in the Discovery Room where children can get a feel for what it was like to live in an Indian village, complete with murals, a fish drying rack, and other fun activities. There is an Elizabethan boat, much like the one the first colonists would have used to navigate the shallow waters of the region. Enjoy dress up clothes, coloring and activity sheets, and a touch-screen computer game featuring European clothing.
