Since its founding in 1967, the Museum of the Albemarle has been an exciting place to explore North Carolina history and history of the Albemarle region. The opening of the new facility in 2005 opened the door for exciting exhibits, programs and events. The museum encourages visitors to discover the past; to reflect on their own lives and their place in history; and to preserve state, regional, and local history for future generations.

All exhibits are designed to be self-guided to be enjoyed at your own pace. Groups may register for specialized tours and programming upon availability with two weeks advance reservation.
“Self-Guided Tours” Discover the exhibits at your own pace. Tour the feature exhibit “Our Story” that offers visitors the opportunity to view the unique history of the people and the land of the Albemarle Region.
“Guided Tours” Want to visit the museum at your own pace, but are afraid you’ll miss something? One of the following walk-in tours offered by the Education Department are available at specified times may be of interest to you.
“Discover Our Story” Inspiring tours of the feature exhibit “Our Story” that focus on a selected era or topic spanning a variety of times, places, and genres.
Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
“Discover Special Exhibits” Tours provide meaningful insight into selected current exhibits. Thursdays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
“Drop- in-Friday” Drop in the museum to enjoy the featured program or activity. This program utilizes storytelling, activities, costumed interpretation or demonstrations. Program will vary from week to week. Fridays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm
