Join us Saturday, June 16, from 10 am - 2 pm as we open our newest exhibit to the public: River Bridge - Sunken Secrets. The ribbon cutting will begin at 10 am.
Excavations at a site along the Pasquotnak River have yielded more than 10,000 artifacts, dating from the middle of the 18th century to the early 20th century. View the exhibit, explore an interactive space, and take part in hands-on activities such as:
- Mapping a mock ship wreck – a mock ship will be established on a cloth or paint tarp, visitors will graph the ship by taking measurements.
- Mending pieces together – Learn how archaeologist but artifacts back together after finding them through mending.
- Learn about Stratigraphy – discover how cultural remains and natural sediments become buried over time, forming strata. Eatable project.
The Time Team America (PBS - 2009) episode on Fort Raleigh will be shown at the beginning of each hour starting at 11 am in the Gaither auditorium.
