Bill Barber, author and historian will look into the boom in the timber business that swept across northeastern North Carolina from the 1880s through the early 1920s, bringing speculators and sawmills to harvest Tyrrell County’s immense timber resources. The extensive network of sawmills and logging operations through Branning Manufacturing and Richmond Cedar Works connected the remote wilderness of Tyrrell County to Edenton and Ahoskie, North Carolina, and the Richmond and Tidewater area of Virginia.

Mr. Barber’s book Tyrrell Timber: A History of Branning Manufacturing Company and Richard Cedar Works may be purchased in our Museum Gift Shop.
