When Are We Us?
When Are We Us?
The exhibit is a thought-provoking approach to commemorating the US 250th anniversary that delves into the history of immigration, integration, fundamental rights, emancipation, and voting in North Carolina. This exhibit, funded by the National Historical Publications & Records Commission, features North Carolina stories through select documents, images, and recordings found in repositories across the state and beyond.
“North Carolina marks the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution with wide-ranging activities during a multi-year commemoration, beginning in 2024. The Department of Natural and Cultural Resources is the state agency charged with overseeing this important commemoration. Together with partner organizations statewide, we seek to lift the voices of North Carolinians to provide a more complete narrative of our state’s role in our country, past and present. This exhibit, funded by the National Historical Publications and Records Commission, features North Carolina stories through select documents, images, and recordings found in repositories across the state and beyond.”
The banners feature images and events related to the northeastern North Carolina counties of Chowan, Camden, Washington, and Hyde including the Edenton Tea Party and the Hyde County school integration protests.
This panel exhibit, which is free and open to the public, from May 22, 2026, to June 16, 2026.
