Join the Museum of the Albemarle on Thursday, Mar. 19, from 1–4 p.m. for a unique One Day Wonder opportunity to view North Carolina’s historic constitutions. The Museum of the Albemarle, a part of the Division of State History Museums, Office of Archives and History, is an agency of the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

Since the first state constitution was adopted in 1776, North Carolina leaders have rewritten the constitution twice and added more than 100 amendments. This special one-day-only exhibit provides an overview of the three state constitutions and their significant amendments that redefined the meaning of citizenship in North Carolina and who could participate in the political process. The exhibit features the 1776 State Constitution and Declaration of Rights, the 1868 State Constitution, and a letter from John Adams commonly known as “Thoughts on Government.” The exhibit also includes archivists from the State Archives of North Carolina who will accompany the materials and interact with visitors.

America 250 NC is North Carolina’s commemoration of the United States’ 250th anniversary and is led by the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. For more information about America 250 NC, visit america250.nc.gov.
